This White Pizza Dip recipe features a creamy, cheesy blend of cream cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, and fresh basil baked in the center of soft garlic knots made from pizza dough. Served warm right from a cast iron skillet, it’s perfect as a shareable appetizer or party snack with a delightful combination of herb-infused garlic butter knots surrounding a rich, flavorful dip.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough & Knots

  • 24 oz. pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 Tbsp Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 tsp garlic (minced)
  • 1½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp kosher salt

Dip

  • 8 oz. cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 Tbsp milk
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1½ tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare Skillet: Brush a 9” or 10” cast iron skillet with olive oil. Place a small bowl or crock in the center of the skillet and set aside to create space for the dip.
  2. Divide Dough: Cut the pizza dough into 12 equal pieces (about 2 ounces each), then cut each piece into 3 smaller pieces.
  3. Shape Dough Balls: Roll each small piece between your palm and countertop in a circular motion until tight dough balls form. Toss the balls in olive oil in a large bowl to coat them evenly.
  4. Arrange Dough Balls: Place the olive oil coated dough balls evenly around the outside of the prepared skillet, encircling the bowl in the center. Cover the skillet and let the dough rise in a warm spot for 1 hour (such as an oven with the light on).
  5. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375°F to preheat while dough rises.
  6. Make the Dip: In a medium bowl, mix together softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, ricotta, milk, chopped fresh basil, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes until smooth and well combined.
  7. Assemble Dip: Remove the cover from the skillet, take out the small bowl, and spoon the prepared dip into the center opening in the skillet.
  8. Bake: Bake the skillet at 375°F for 28-30 minutes until the dip is lightly browned on top. Optionally, broil for 2-3 minutes afterward to brown the cheese further.
  9. Prepare Garlic Butter: While baking, whisk melted butter with grated Parmesan, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and kosher salt to create the garlic butter mixture.
  10. Brush Garlic Knots: Remove skillet from oven and generously brush the garlic butter mixture over the baked dough balls. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a warm rising spot, placing the skillet in an oven with just the oven light on works well to help dough rise.
  • If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, any oven-safe skillet of similar size can be used.
  • Broiling after baking is optional, but adds a lovely golden brown crust to the dip’s cheese topping.
