Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon Sugar Filling:

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan to prevent sticking during baking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt ensuring they are evenly combined.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and well blended.
  4. Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring just until combined to avoid overmixing which can toughen the bread.
  5. Prepare cinnamon sugar filling: In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until fully blended to create a rich and fragrant filling.
  6. Layer the batter and filling: Pour half of the batter into the greased loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top. Add the remaining batter, then sprinkle the final half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it. Use a knife to swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter for a marbled effect.
  7. Bake the bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, indicating it is fully cooked.
  8. Cool and ice: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool completely. For the icing, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the icing over the cooled bread.
  9. Serve: Slice the bread into pieces and enjoy the warm, sweet cinnamon swirl with the creamy vanilla icing.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overmix the batter to keep the bread tender and moist.
  • Swirling the cinnamon sugar gently ensures distinct layers without mixing them completely.
  • You can substitute milk with a non-dairy alternative to make it lactose-free.
  • If you prefer a stronger cinnamon flavor, increase the cinnamon quantity by a tablespoon.
  • This bread is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
