Dill Pickle Saltines are a crunchy, flavorful snack made by tossing classic saltine crackers in a tangy dill seasoning mix and baking them to perfection. This easy-to-make treat combines the savory taste of dill, garlic, and onion with a slight kick of pepper flakes, making it an addictive snack perfect for gatherings or casual munching.

Ingredients

Scale

Crackers

  • 1 box (about 450 g / 16 oz) saltine crackers

Seasoning Mix

  • ½ cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 packet (about 20 g / 0.7 oz) dry dill seasoning mix
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried dill (optional, for extra flavor)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 160°C (325°F) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Prepare Crackers: Place the entire box of saltine crackers into a large mixing bowl, making sure there’s enough space to toss them with the seasoning.
  3. Make Seasoning Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, dry dill seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, dried dill, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if you’re using them. This flavorful oil blend will coat the crackers evenly.
  4. Coat Crackers: Pour the seasoned oil mixture over the crackers. Gently toss with a spatula or spoon until every cracker is thoroughly coated with the flavorful oil mixture.
  5. Arrange for Baking: Spread the coated crackers out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. This ensures they bake evenly and get crisp.
  6. Bake: Bake the crackers in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes. Stir once halfway through the baking time to ensure that all crackers become fragrant and lightly crisp.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the crackers from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet. Cooling intensifies the flavors and helps the crackers to crisp up fully before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to toss gently to avoid breaking the fragile saltine crackers.
  • You can adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to make the snack more or less spicy according to your preference.
  • For an extra pop of flavor, add a bit more dried dill or garlic powder to the seasoning mix.
  • Store cooled crackers in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled for larger batches.
