5 from 20 reviews

This Deliciously Cheesy Italian Stromboli is a savory, rolled Italian-style bread filled with layers of provolone, mozzarella, pepperoni, and Italian ham or salami. Baked to golden perfection and brushed with garlic-seasoned butter, it makes a perfect appetizer, snack, or meal served with marinara sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 lb (450g) Pizza Dough (store-bought or homemade)

Cheese

  • 1 1/2 cups (150g) Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
  • 68 slices Provolone Cheese

Meat

  • 1 cup (150g) Italian Ham or Salami, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup (75g) Pepperoni, thinly sliced

Seasoning & Topping

  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 tbsp (30g) Butter, melted
  • Fresh Parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle approximately 12×14 inches on a lightly floured surface to prevent sticking.
  2. Layer the Filling: Evenly layer the provolone cheese slices over the dough. Next, add the thinly sliced Italian ham or salami, followed by the pepperoni slices. Top everything off with shredded mozzarella cheese, ensuring to leave about a 1-inch border around the edges to facilitate sealing.
  3. Roll It Up! Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough tightly into a jelly roll shape. Pinch the edges together firmly to seal the stromboli and prevent filling leakage. Transfer it to the prepared baking sheet with the seam side down.
  4. Brush & Season: Brush the entire top of the stromboli with melted butter. Sprinkle garlic powder and Italian seasoning evenly over the top. Make several small diagonal slits on the top surface to allow steam to escape during baking.
  5. Bake: Place the stromboli in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbling inside. Remove from oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes to set.
  6. Garnish & Slice: Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the top for a pop of color and flavor. Slice the stromboli into portions and serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy your cheesy Italian treat!

Notes

  • You can substitute the Italian ham or salami with other cured meats like prosciutto or capicola if preferred.
  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the filling or on top before baking.
  • Make sure to seal the dough edges well to prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.
  • Letting the stromboli rest after baking helps the cheese set, making it easier to slice.
  • This stromboli can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the bake time if baking from cold.
