Ingredients

Scale

Spinach Mixture

  • 2 (10 oz) packages frozen spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Topping and Preparation

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for greasing)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish thoroughly with olive oil to prevent sticking and add flavor.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed and drained spinach with sour cream, softened cream cheese, grated Parmesan, shredded mozzarella, minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Assemble the Casserole: Transfer the spinach mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly to create a uniform layer that will bake evenly.
  4. Add Breadcrumb Topping: Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the spinach mixture to form a crispy, golden topping during baking.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly around the edges and the breadcrumb topping is golden brown.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and optionally garnish with fresh parsley before serving for a touch of color and freshness.

Notes

  • Make sure to thoroughly drain the spinach to prevent excess moisture which can make the casserole watery.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute some of the mozzarella with cheddar cheese if desired.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
  • Breadcrumbs can be swapped with crushed crackers or panko for varied texture.
  • Use fresh garlic instead of garlic powder for a stronger garlic flavor.
