Cheeseburger Pie is a savory, low-carb comfort food that combines ground beef, onions, and a fluffy almond-coconut flour crust topped with gooey melted cheese. This hearty pie is a delicious twist on the classic cheeseburger flavors baked into a satisfying meal perfect for dinner or lunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef (or venison burger)
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Crust & Egg Mixture

  • 1/3 cup coconut flour
  • 3 Tablespoons almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 4 large eggs

Toppings

  • 1½ cups shredded cheese (divided)
  • 1 tomato (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat and Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion together until the meat is browned and onions are softened, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if desired.
  2. Prepare the Pie Base: Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture evenly into a greased pie plate. Sprinkle the salt evenly over the meat to season it uniformly.
  3. Mix the Flour and Eggs: In a mixing bowl, combine the coconut flour, almond flour, and baking powder. Stir in the unsweetened almond milk and the eggs until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  4. Assemble the Pie: Pour the egg and flour mixture evenly over the beef layer in the pie plate. Sprinkle about 1 cup of the shredded cheese on top of the egg mixture to start the cheesy layer.
  5. Bake the Pie: Place the pie in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) and bake for approximately 25 minutes or until the crust has set and is golden on the edges.
  6. Add Final Toppings: Remove the pie from the oven. Optionally, place sliced tomato on top and sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tomatoes for more flavor and texture.
  7. Finish Baking: Return the pie to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes to melt the final cheese layer and warm the tomato topping.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider topping the pie with pickles, mustard, or ketchup after baking for a true cheeseburger taste.
  • This pie is naturally low-carb and gluten-free due to the use of coconut and almond flours instead of wheat flour.
  • You can substitute ground veal or turkey for the beef for a different flavor and lighter pie.
  • Allow the pie to cool slightly before slicing to help the layers set for clean slices.
  • If using regular flour instead of coconut/almond flours, adjust the liquid quantities accordingly.
